The August meeting was good. It was nice to see some new faces and have a good crowd. Rumor has it that Murph will be giving some sort of presentation for our next meeting so stay tuned for details. See you in September.

I’d like to do a demonstration on group communications and how we, as a Linux User’s group can communicate more effectively.
Think about how YOU would like to get information about the group, and any Linux and FLOSS events that are happening in the area.
Right now we are using the web site (that few are now reading) the mailing lists (Nick’s offical club list and the Meetup list) and Identi.ca. Identi.ca and the web site can be viewed as RSS feeds as well. Will one of these methods work for you, or do you have suggestions on other methods? I’ll try to send out a poll on these before the next meeting, and I welcome your suggestions here.

Thats a great idea. I’m gonna see what I can find on “The Art of Community” about effective ways to communicate.

Since the topic of communication has come up, I am convinced that our discussion forum is not worth keeping up. Thats for two reasons, first because it is not being used. I believe that we simply do not have enough members to develop a productive forum and there are better Linux community options for support than we can provide. Second is that the software I chose for the forum (bbPress) is lacking certain features and I have had to make extra effort to control spam and bogus user registration.
So as of today, I will drop that database and remove all references to our forum.
If in the future a forum looks viable, we can make another effort with a better software choice.
Cheers
Mike
