Cool Beans, Oradell.
Verona Boat House, Verona ??
Launchpad Creatives, 97 Main Street Woodbridge, NJ
Elizabeth Library
Morris County Library
Clifton Library
Hackensack Community Center (Proposed, no details)
Edison, NJ (no details)
Discussed and dismissed at our last move, we can talk to NYI in Bridgewater.

Also, a few people have requested some sort of remote possibility for people that can’t make a meeting.

Google Meetup
Skype
mikogo.com

There are pros and cons to all of these that we should discuss.

Hopefully this will provide plenty of discussion for the upcoming meeting at Cool Beans in Oradell.

Hello:

Due to the hard work of +Nickalf B and the generosity of Converge, we’ve had a great place to meet for the last nine months. Unfortunately, Converge is no longer going to be there at Kean University, so we will no longer have that space available.

This is your chance to have a real impact on the group. Where would you like to meet? Do you have a place that seems great, but figured that there was no opportunity to bring it up? This is your chance!

Take a look around, see if you can find a location that would be suitable for the LUG to meet in. Someplace centrally located, preferably with a projector and network access. See if you can talk to the people that run the place, and find out if it is suitable.

We are really depending on YOU, the membership to help in this effort st that we will have a place to meet going forward.

Thanks,
–murph

I just got back from Fosscon last night, it was a great small conference. Very approachable, and a lot of fun.

I’ve also been thinking, Software Freedom Day is approaching fast! We only have two meetings before September 17th. If everyone can put some thought to a location that we can use for a SFD demonstration, we really need to discuss and take action on this FAST!

I started to register, but did not have a location to put in yet.

http://www.softwarefreedomday.org

The two locations that I presented a few months ago turn out to be very expensive, and the deadlines have passed already.

I hope to hear from some of you this Wednesday.

Tory did a fantastic presentation on the setup of his home server setup for media organization.
Using ZFS on Solaris, he has set up a fault-tolerant, high performance storage solution for his modest home media system.

I couldn’t possibly encapsulate the presentation in a few paragraphs, it was packed full of home server goodness. I am having trouble uploading the presentation, and I wasn’t able to open the .pptx in Libreoffice.

Updated with Tory’s slide deck. See all of you Wednesday. ZFS Based Server

Our meeting last night was a nice change of pace. Not only were we able to offload a bunch of the obsolete books from our library for a good cause, we also heard a great presentation by Evan Koblentz and Jeff Jonas of the Mid Atlantic Retro Computing Hobbyists group. They even brought in an Altair 8800 and started it up for us. Much thanks to them for an interesting evening. Additionally Evan and Jeff would like the NJLinux community to know about the Vintage Computer Fest coming up in May.

Rumor has it that Tory may be coming the the April meeting to do a presentation and I know Reg has been working on some things for us as well, as has Murph. So stay tuned for more details.

It will be a nice treat to have a guest speaker for a change.

Thanks go to our member Murph for getting the conversation started with Evan. Additionally, Evan will be collecting all the obsolete and unwanted books we have collecting dust in our library and putting them to good use either at MARCH or through donations to InfoAge.

See you at the meeting.
